The meaning of life helps to sleep peacefully. People who live with meaning are less likely to suffer from sleep disorders.
Many elderly people, and not only elderly people, have problems with sleep: at night a person often wakes up, sleeps badly, and in the morning can not shake off drowsiness.
Usually in such cases, prescribe any medicine or physiological procedures, but the doctors themselves do not hide the fact that it's best to be treated with purely psychological means. One of the psychological ways to make sure that you slept well is:
It turns out that for a good sleep in our life there should be a sense.
Researchers interviewed more than 800 people aged 60 to 100 years to see how they sleep and feel whether their lives are meaningful. The "sleepy" questionnaire included thirty-two questions, the questionnaire "for life" - ten, and among them was, for example, this: a person was asked to assess how much the following statement relates to him: "I am pleased to think about what I did in past and what I'm going to do in the future. "
It turned out that those who are satisfied with their own lives, who knows why they live, sleep better. They, say, 63% less likely to suffer from nocturnal sleep apnea - so-called short-term breathing stops, due to which the sleep current is disturbed and as a result, there is daytime sleepiness, fatigue, memory and intellect deteriorate, work capacity decreases. Also, those who live "with meaning" are 52% less likely to have restless legs syndrome when, due to unpleasant sensations in the legs, a person is forced to constantly move them, which again, like apnea, breaks sleep - and then on the list.
Participation was accepted only by elderly people - among them were both women and men, both white and black, while none of them suffered from age-related dementia. But it seems that a similar pattern can be found among younger people - although, of course, young people probably rarely think about the meaning of life lived.
On the other hand, one can not but note that we are dealing with correlation here, and in order to talk about a cause-effect relationship, we need to put an experiment in which a person with a low opinion of his own life helps to gain meaning with the help of psychotherapy, and at the same time watch how his sleep changes; and if the dream really starts to improve, then it will be possible to say with good reason that yes, the meaning of life really helps to sleep peacefully.
